Researcher in Human-Robot-Interaction (Project Transform): Project position with opportunity to pursue a doctorate (3 years)
The Media informatics group at the University of Munich is offering a position as a Doctoral Researcher (m/f/d; Full-Time; 3 Years; TV-L E13) in Human-Robot-Interaction.
The position is part of Project Transform (Transparency for Machinery in Personal Pervasive Smart Spaces). The contract will be limited to three years and will provide the opportunity to pursue a PhD in Computer Science.
The research project comprises the advancement and operation of our robotic smart-space (a room with technical elements such as robotic arms, projectors, surround sound, smart lighting, and other smart-home-appliances). This includes the design and implementation of a suitable system architecture as well as design and conduction of user studies within the smart space.
Research questions in the project include (non-exhaustive selection):
- Interaction design regarding user & smart space (interaction modalities, central point of interaction)
- Design of cues to communicate attention and intention of the smart space
- Design of the smart space as a unity/entity (in contrast to mere accumulation of appliances)
- Invisibility (technology in the background) vs. transparency (technology communicates its system state and abilities)
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in robotics research (e.g., Python, C++, ROS)
- Capacity for logical and abstract thinking (design of system-architecture)
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Enthusiasm for robotics
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
The University of Munich is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse academic community. We therefore explicitly encourage applications from individuals belonging to groups underrepresented in academia. Disabled applicants are given preferential consideration in the event of equal qualification.
Applications and inquiries should be sent to sekretariat@medien.ifi.lmu.de.
